Cle de Peau Radiant Liquid Rouge
Cle de Peau Radiant Liquid Rouge

Cle de Peau Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a long-wearing glossy stain that hydrates for “four hours.” There are eight shades, and I bought seven of the eight (inadvertently, I had purchased three from one retailer and forgot I had done so and then bought six at another retailer with two overlapping and one missing, LOL!), so here are swatches!

Cle de Peau Lingerie Radiant Liquid Rouge
Cle de Peau Lingerie Radiant Liquid Rouge

Cle de Peau Lingerie (11) Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a light-medium, peachy coral with warm undertones and a cream-like finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied smoothly, but some of the color settled into lip lines noticeably, particularly on my bottom lip. I was surprised at how it did not leave “lines” when I pressed my lips together as it is such a light shade. The texture was smooth, comfortable to wear, and felt hydrating over the five hours it lasted. Chanel Mystery (P, $30.00) is lighter, less pigmented, lower quality (95% similar). MAC Artful (LE, $15.00) is warmer (95% similar). Chanel Super Nude (137) (LE, $34.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). NYX Tres Leches (P, $5.99) is lighter, more pigmented (90% similar). Chanel Fleur d'Eau (192) (LE, $30.00) is less pigmented (90% similar). Make Up For Ever 302P Golden Coral (P, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Calypso Beat (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Maybelline Nude Illusion (060) (P, $8.99) is warmer (90% similar). Chanel Bliss (181) (LE, $30.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Everlasting Nude (LE, $19.50) is darker, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Cle de Peau Chenille (12) Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark rosy plum with warm undertones and a cream-like finish and lots of shine. It had nearly opaque color coverage that went on smoothly and evenly. The texture was lightweight, gel-like as it “set,” and was very comfortable to wear. This shade wore well for six hours and was hydrating. MAC Hyper-Fabulous (LE, $20.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Chanel Intrigue (P, $30.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Love Drunk (320) (P, $28.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Chanel Audace (20) (LE, $34.00) is darker, brighter, warmer (85% similar). NARS Dolce Vita (DC, $25.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Tuned In (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Cle de Peau Flushed (13) Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a subdued, medium-dark rosy pink with subtle, warm undertones and a fine, silver pearl. It was very pigmented, though just shy of being full coverage, and the color went on smoothly and evenly without streaking or looking patchy. The formula had a gel-like consistency that was comfortable to wear, as it wasn’t clingy or too tacky. I was able to wear this color for just over five and a half hours, and it was moisturizing while worn. MAC Astral (LE, $20.00) is darker (90% similar). NARS Fast Life (LE, $28.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). Urban Decay Frenemy (P, $26.00) is less shimmery (85% similar). Anastasia St. Tropez (-, $16.00) is more shimmery, cooler (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Cle de Peau Sequin (14) Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a bright, peony pink with warm, yellow undertones and a fine silver pearl. It had richer color payoff than the others, but the texture was thicker overall as well, which made it a little harder to apply and keep from welling up in my lip lines. The color wore well for just over four and a half hours, and it was nicely hydrating. Sephora Pink Dahlia (14) (P, $12.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Maybelline Blush Essence (095) (P, $8.99) is more shimmery, less pigmented (90% similar). MAC Go for Girlie (LE, $20.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Viva Glam Nicki (LE, $15.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Maybelline Caramel Infused (065) (P, $8.99) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). Dior Tiny Pink (269) (P, $35.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Hoop (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Anastasia Blushing (-, $16.00) is darker, more muted, cooler (85% similar). MAC Little Miss Mischief (LE, $20.00) is darker, brighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Formula Overview

Cle de Peau Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a long-wearing “glossy stain” that give lips a “shiny, vinyl look” with “rich color.” The consistency is smooth, lightweight, and like a watery cream when initially applied, but it develops into a lighter weight gel texture after a few minutes. Most of the shades have medium or greater coverage, long-wearing, high-shine, and are hydrating while worn. There is a subtle floral scent to the formula, but I did not notice it except in the tube and did not encounter any taste. They look more like a stain than they actually behave like one, as I only found the darkest shades to leave behind any trace of color after it had worn away. There is a slight tackiness after an hour or so, but it never turned truly sticky.

Cle de Peau Fast Lane (15) Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium-dark magenta purple with warm, pink undertones and a creamy, almost jelly-like finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that covered fairly evenly, but this was one of the less pigmented shades in the range and did not have the same evenness in the application I had come to expect from the formula. The color wore well for just over five hours and was hydrating, though. MAC Dilly Dazzle (P, $10.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Narcissus (LE, $20.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). MAC Snuggle Up (LE, $20.00) is more muted, cooler (90% similar). MAC Love You Big Time (P, $10.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Bittersweet (P, $26.00) is darker (90% similar). Make Up For Ever 500 Lilac (P, $19.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). MAC How Chic is This (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Cle de Peau Bugatti Red (17) Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a bright, bold medium-dark red with cool, blue undertones and a creamy finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, but it applied very evenly and smoothly. The texture was gel-like on the lips, but it was lightweight and made my lips appear smoother. This shade wore for over six hours and was moisturizing over time. MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $15.00) is warmer (95% similar). NARS No. 54 (P, $26.00) is lighter, less glossy (95% similar). Anastasia Carla (-, $16.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Giorgio Armani #400 Four Hundred (P, $38.00) is less glossy (90% similar). Christian Louboutin Beaute Altressa (P, $85.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Stolen Cherry (P, $52.00) is lighter, brighter, less glossy (90% similar). MAC Driven by Love (P, $19.50) is more shimmery (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty No Vacancy (P, $52.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Anastasia Neon Apple (-, $16.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay F-Bomb (P, $19.00) is less glossy (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Cle de Peau Lempicka Red (17) Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark, reddish-berry with subtle, cool undertones and a shiny finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which looked like a true stain, as it was translucent but still very visible in color. The consistency was smooth, lightweight, and gel-like, where it made lips appear plumper and smoother. The color wore well for over six hours and felt hydrating on me. Anastasia Carla (-, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Utterly Tart (LE, $15.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Chanel Crushed Cherry (DC, $30.00) is lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Gash (P, $26.00) is warmer, less glossy (90% similar). Revlon HD Carnelian (545) (P, $8.99) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Red Corset (P, $52.00) is cooler (85% similar). MAC Courting Chic (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, darker, more muted (85% similar). MAC Suggestive (LE, $20.00) is lighter, brighter, less glossy (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Cle de Peau Deco (16) Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a medium, coral-orange with warm, reddish undertones and a creamy, lightly shiny finish. The texture was thinner and did not seem as glossy or as gel-like as other shades in the range, so it wasn’t as flattering or as smoothing on the lips. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that covered evenly, at least, and it still wore better than most glosses at five hours. Guerlain Nahema Smack (P, $30.00) is warmer (95% similar). Hourglass Nectar (P, $28.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (95% similar). Gucci Beauty Crushed Coral (P, $32.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Dior Cosmic (656) (P, $30.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Never Say Never (LE, $20.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). NARS Viva (LE, $26.00) is lighter (90% similar). Guerlain Candy Stripe (P, $30.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Tattoo My Heart (P, $24.00) is brighter, cooler, lower quality (90% similar). NARS Paris Follies (LE, $26.00) is brighter (90% similar). Hourglass Muse (P, $28.00) is brighter (85% similar). Giorgio Armani #402 (P, $29.00) is warmer (85% similar). Dior Rose Tricheuse (669) (LE, $35.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Barbecue (LE, $15.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Anastasia Neon Carnival (-, $16.00) is brighter (85% similar). Chanel Sirocco (604) (LE, $30.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Becca Watermelon/Opal (P, $24.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Maybelline Glistening Coral (525) (P, $8.99) is lighter (85% similar). Anastasia Hibiscus (-, $16.00) is brighter (85% similar). Anastasia Papaya (-, $16.00) is brighter (80% similar). NARS Eternal Red (P, $26.00) is warmer (80% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Best Highlighters | Holiday 2016 Gift Guide

It’s that time of the year again:  holiday gift guides aplenty!  This year, I’ve broken out my gift guides into best of selections for blush, eyeshadow, highlighter, lipstick, lipgloss, palettes, and brushes.  These guides feature permanent formulas so that they can be useful anytime during the holiday season or even into next year.  For limited edition holiday products, you can check out our list of the top 50 highest-rated holiday products, which updates as I post more reviews for holiday products.  I hope you find this list of top performing highlighters useful 🙂

Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Powder

Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Powder

Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Powder ($44.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a luminous, powder highlighter that strikes the right balance between being noticeable without emphasizing the skin’s natural texture. The shimmer is fine, while the powder is silky and smooth. There are only three shades at the moment, and the one I use the most is Starlight, which works as a highlighting blush on my skin tone.

Availability

Sephora, Nordstrom, Beautylish, Neiman Marcus,

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator ($26.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a moderately shimmery powder highlighter available in four shades. The consistency is soft, smooth, and blendable, while the shades provide subtle color and plenty of sheen to the skin. They’re medium to opaque in coverage, but the texture is forgiving enough that it can be sheered out or applied with a fan brush for subtle luminosity. The shade I use most often is Ballerina.

Availability

Nordstrom, Ulta

Anastasia Illuminator

Anastasia Illuminator

Anastasia Illuminator ($28.00 for 0.35 oz.) is supposed to “impart a lit-from-within glow,” and they are a pressed, powder highlighter that is similar to products like MAC In Extra Dimension, NARS Dual Intensity Blush, Estee Lauder Gelee, and so forth. The formula is smooth, high-shine, and pigmented–so it is most suitable for someone who likes a very strong, more metallic highlight. The one I use the most is Starlight.

Cle de Peau Luminizing Face Enhancer

Cle de Peau Luminizing Face Enhancer

Cle de Peau Luminizing Face Enhancer ($55.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a softer, subtler powder highlighter. The powder’s texture is soft, smooth, and blends easily on the skin, while the shimmer is luminous and sits well on the skin without emphasizing pores or the skin’s natural texture. My favorite shade is Sand Beige (13).

Availability

Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks, Cle de Peau, Bergdorf Goodman

Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder

Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder

Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder ($46.00 for 0.28 oz.) is only available in two permanent shades–Bronze Glow and Pink Glow–but the formula is smooth, luminous, and easy to use. There are also three limited edition shades floating around on various retailers (still available at the time of writing), and those three I heartily recommend if you find them!

Availability

Sephora, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bobbi Brown

LORAC Light Source Illuminating Highlighter

LORAC Light Source Illuminating Highlighter

LORAC Light Source Illuminating Highlighter ($22.00 for 0.20 oz.) is a powder highlighter available in four shades–three gold-inspired hues and one pink one. These have a very soft, smooth, and finely-milled consistency, so they’re easy to control and apply to the skin without emphasizing pores. My favorite shade is Daylight.

Ulta

Essence Pure Nude Highlighter

Essence Pure Nude Highlighter

Essence Pure Nude Highlighter ($4.49 for 0.23 oz.) is an excellent highlighter, and the fact that it’s under $5 is just icing on the cake. It’s soft, smooth, and blendable with enough sheen that it’s noticeable but doesn’t look metallic. There is only one shade at this time, so let’s hope they add more to the range!

Availability

Ulta

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder ($40.00 for 0.26 oz.) is comprised of five shades, four which are more like hues of bronze and one that is a lighter, translucent champagne, Highlight 01. It doesn’t add a lot of color to most skin tones, but it doesn’t seem strongly white-based, so it is still a versatile shade. The finish of it is spectacular: just glowy enough to use on cheeks but subtle enough that it can be dusted more freely on the face or all-over.

Sephora, Nordstrom, Saks

Cover FX Custom Enhancing Drops (Illuminating)

Cover FX Custom Enhancing Drops (Illuminating)

Cover FX Custom Enhancing Drops (Illuminating) ($42.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a liquid formula that can add a “highlighting, strobing, or bronzing effect” to your favorite liquid products or used alone on top of (or underneath) your other products (including powder); two of the six shades are bronzing and four are more shimmery/metallic for highlighting. What’s neat about these is that they are versatile as you want them to be; they really do perform well mixed with various liquid and cream products (moisturizer, foundation, tinted moisturizer, primer) while also working under and over makeup, and they really are buildable from sheer to opaque coverage. My favorite shades are: Celestial and Sunlight.

Availability

Sephora, Beautylish

Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Highlighter

Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Highlighter

Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Highlighter ($26.00 for 0.23 oz.) is available in three shades–a pale pink, peachy-orange, and champagne–but knowing Urban Decay, I remain very hopeful that they’ll expand the range in the next year. The texture of the highlighters is soft, smooth, blendable, and yields moderate or greater sheen. The shade I like the most in the range is Aura, as you don’t find too many permanent, cooler pinks.

Best Lipglosses | Holiday 2016 Gift Guide

It’s that time of the year again:  holiday gift guides aplenty!  This year, I’ve broken out my gift guides into best of selections for blush, eyeshadow, highlighter, lipstick, lipgloss, palettes, and brushes.  These guides feature permanent formulas so that they can be useful anytime during the holiday season or even into next year.  For limited edition holiday products, you can check out our list of the top 50 highest-rated holiday products, which updates as I post more reviews for holiday products. Here’s a look at the best lipgloss formulas I’ve tried:

Anastasia Lipgloss

Anastasia Lipgloss

Anastasia Lipgloss ($16.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is supposed to be “opaque” with “high-shine” that’s “non-drying.” It is one of the more pigmented lipglosses out there that has a smoother, more cushion-y consistency that typically spreads well across the lips. My experience from wearing the formula is that they are often lightly to moderately hydrating and wear three to five hours. Check out our list of the top 15 Anastasia Lipglosses, plus here are of my favorite shades are: Weekend Barbie, Purple Rain, Orchid, and Warm Bronze.

Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Color

Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Color

Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Color ($52.00 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a “lip stain with an ultra-glossy finish” that has “intense, vibrant color” and “long-lasting high shine.” The formula feels lightweight, almost watery, when initially applied but thickens and feels more like a moderately tacky gel after thirty to forty seconds. It has great staying power with the glossiness lasting for six hours and the color itself still going strong eight to ten hours later (after two meals and coffee)–by the end of the day, it has more of a natural sheen to it (like a lip stain) but looked even. It does stain as well. I would forget that I was wearing it, which is a testament to how comfortable and hydrating it is for all-day wear. The coverage is nearly opaque but has that slight translucency that you would expect to see in a lip stain. Some of my favorite shades are: Infamy and Red Corset.

Cle de Peau Radiant Liquid Rouge

Cle de Peau Radiant Liquid Rouge

Cle de Peau Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a long-wearing “glossy stain” that give lips a “shiny, vinyl look” with “rich color.” The consistency is smooth, lightweight, and like a watery cream when initially applied, but it develops into a lighter weight gel texture after a few minutes.
Some of my favorite shades are: Mepicka Red, Chenille, and Bugatti Red.

NARS Velvet Lip Glide

NARS Velvet Lip Glide

NARS Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a hybrid between lipstick and lipgloss that is hydrating, richly pigmented, and comfortable to wear. They have stronger color payoff, a non-tacky consistency, and a smoothness to their consistency that is a lot like a good lipstick, while they have a plusher, thicker texture that gives lips a plumper, fuller look along with a glossy sheen that is more like a gloss.
Some of my favorite shades are: Unspeakable, La Maine Bleue, and Bound.

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer ($8.99 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to deliver “true color clarity” with “vivid high-impact shine and a “lightweight feel” that is “never sticky.” The gloss has a creamy consistency to it that is a little gel-like, and though it doesn’t feel heavy, it is a thicker consistency. There’s a light tackiness to it initially, which I find develops to a noticeable tackiness after a couple of hours–if you don’t like thicker, tackier glosses, I don’t know that these are for you. If you like bolder, more pigmented glosses, you’ll find some real winners in this range! Some of my favorite shades are: HD Rose Quartz, HD Citrine, HD Pink Ruby, and HD Sunstone.

Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Gel

Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Gel

Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Gel ($14.00 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to be “inspired by gel nail polishes” with an “ultra-light” texture and hydrating formula. They’re lightweight, comfortable to wear, and mostly non-sticky. Despite having a smoother, mostly non-sticky feel, the formula has decent wear time (three to five hours) and is hydrating. The range varies a lot with respect to pigmentation–some are very sheer, others are more opaque! Some of my favorite shades are: Fresh Peach, Pomegranate Delight, Deep Rose, and Nude Alert.

Surratt Beauty Lip Lustre

Surratt Beauty Lip Lustre

Surratt Beauty Lip Lustre ($32.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as “sheer,” “long-wearing,” and “moisturizing.” It is a light-medium thick, tacky gloss that feels very smooth going on and holds on well, even with a really sheer shade like this one. This gloss lasted for four hours and was somewhat hydrating while worn. I like the more shimmery shades in the range, which have great shine and sparkle. Soigne is my favorite that I’ve tried.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain<

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain< ($36.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to have the “texture and shine of a gloss” with the “long wear of a stain.” I’ve long been a fan of the Glossy Stain formula for a long-wearing gloss with (often) good pigmentation. The formula has a thinner, more watery feel initially but thickens as it “develops” on the lips. Some of my favorite shades are: Corail Aquatique and Rouge Gouache.

Urban Decay Revolution Lip Gloss

Urban Decay Revolution Lip Gloss

Urban Decay Revolution Lip Gloss ($22.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a new, permanent formula just in time for summer. The range includes fourteen shades to choose from with the majority leaning brighter and bolder. The formula is supposed to give “high coverage” in “one coat” with a “creamy” texture that is also hydrating. Some shades are less opaque (nowhere near one coat pigmentation!) and a few could have applied more evenly. The glosses feel creamy, almost gel-like, as they’re so smooth, initially, but all of them developed tackiness over time, which helped them to wear longer than the average gloss with a range of four to six hours of wear. The formula was hydrating for me, and it is comfortable to wear as long as tackiness isn’t a deal-breaker for you. Some of my favorite shades are: Shadowheart, After Dark, Quiver, and Big Bang.

Cle de Peau Les Annees Folles Holiday Eye Color Palette

Les Annees Folles

Cle de Peau Les Annees Folles Holiday Eye Color Palette ($125.00 for 0.31 oz.) is a new, limited edition holiday palette that features eight eyeshadows. Each row of eyeshadows is actually removeable and can be put into one of the brand’s quad compacts. The formula was very finely-milled, but it was so soft that it was prone to sheering out as it was a little thin and dusty, though the formula blended well on the skin. If you’re someone who wants very true-to-pan color and intense coverage that lasts, you’ll likely be disappointed with this palette. If you’re someone who likes softer, more muted takes on color and doesn’t mind using an eyeshadow primer, it might be more in your wheelhouse (but it is undoubtedly expensive, so there are numerous other options that are more versatile–e.g. capable of delivering intense pigmentation but can also be sheered down).

The texture was very soft, moderately powdery, and was messy to use, as the color sheered out and dropped below the lid. I felt like I had to pack it on, layer after layer, to get any sort of intensity that was similar to what I saw in the pan. It lasted for six hours on me.

Modern Era (315)

Cle de Peau Modern Era (315) Eye Color Quad ($55.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a shimmery, green-themed “quad.” All four shades were decent to good with slightly softer, looser consistencies, which made a couple shades appear sheerer and fade a bit faster. Both were solvable with regular eyeshadow primer as a base. The pop of brighter, lighter green was interesting, as it had a starker appearance but still paired well with the other shades when I tried it.

Cle de Peau Persimmon & Perfect Peach Cream Blushes

Persimmon

Cle de Peau Persimmon Cream Blush ($60.00 for 0.21 oz.) is medium coral-orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. I felt like it looked more coral the more I blended out, whereas initially it appeared more orange-toned. It had sheer to medium, buildable coverage that applied evenly to the skin. The texture was smooth, thin, lightweight, and just a bit emollient initially but felt more like a powder once it hit my skin. The color wore well for eight hours on me.

The formula is supposed to have “the perfect touch of sheer luminous color” that can be applied with fingertips or a brush. The consistency is firmer in the pot; it’s definitely a cream-based product, but only a little comes away from the surface and dries down within twenty seconds of being applied to the skin. The coverage was semi-sheer, buildable up to semi-opaque coverage. I liked applying these with either a small, synthetic stippling brush or my fingertips, though my preferred method was using a brush to initially apply the color and then lightly patting the edges with my fingertips. On me, the blushes lasted between seven and nine hours on my normal-to-dry skin. The formula is rose-scented, and I get a faint hint of it when worn.

Perfect Peach

Cle de Peau Perfect Peach Cream Blush ($60.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a muted, medium rosy brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It was easy to blend out along the edges, and it wore nicely for seven hours on me.

Cle de Peau 102 Calm Eye Color Duo

102 Calm

Cle de Peau 102 Calm Eye Color Duo ($55.00 for 0.15 oz.) contains a medium, warm-toned pink and a light, pinky-peach. The two created a rather soft look, so I’m not sure if it will create a perfect one-and-done look for everyone, but if you like your pinks and are normally a fan of the softness of the Cle de Peau formula, you may enjoy it.

The formula is supposed to have a “silky” feel, be moisturizing on the lids (though it is a powder formula), long-wearing, and have true-to-pan color. I like the effect of Cle de Peau’s eyeshadows on the lid; I think that “moisturizing” aspect of them makes them sit well on the lid as time passes, where they meld well to bare skin. I find that they can be semi-opaque to opaque, more buildable and very easy to wear as a wash of color, if desired. The eyeshadows are rose-scented, though I only just noticed the scent with the compact open but not applied.

As a FYI, Cle de Peau sells the duos as a pan-only, which is not magnetized but you could stick a magnet to it so it would adhere to most freestyle palettes, or purchase their case for $25.

103 Harmony

Cle de Peau 103 Harmony Eye Color Duo ($55.00 for 0.15 oz.) contains a darker green and a lighter, warmer green. I think the selection of shades is more versatile in this duo than some of the others, as there is a good level of contrast between the two shades as well as a difference in shimmer.

105 Serenity

Cle de Peau 105 Serenity Eye Color Duo ($55.00 for 0.15 oz.) contains a deep, navy blue paired with a soft platinum. I loved the color combination, but the navy blue could have performed better–it was a little drier and more prone to sheering out, which could be somewhat uneven in appearance without a good primer underneath it.

Serenity (Left)

Serenity (Left) is a deep navy blue with cool undertones and a soft, pearly shimmer. It had medium pigmentation, which was somewhat buildable to semi-opaque coverage, but I really felt like I had to pack it on to the point where there was some fallout during application as not all of it layered well. The texture was drier, looser in the pan, and prone to sheering out. With a deeper color like this, it seemed to always look a bit uneven to my eye. The color lasted for seven hours before fading noticeably.

106 Balance

Cle de Peau 106 Balance Eye Color Duo ($55.00 for 0.15 oz.) contains medium-dark, sparkling gray and a lighter, bluish gray. The two shades created a soft, faded smoky eye, which may be a good option for someone who finds other smoky eye palettes too contrasting or deep.

Balance (Left)

Balance (Left) is a medium-dark gray with neutral undertones and faint, pink shimmer. It had good color coverage, which did not build to full coverage without a primer. The texture was soft, smooth, and finely-milled without being dusty in the pan. The eyeshadow started to fade on me after seven and a half hours of wear.

Cle de Peau #237, 238, 239 Enriched Lip Luminizers

Golden Coral (237)

Cle de Peau Golden Coral (237) Enriched Lip Luminizer ($35.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a muted, medium coral with warm undertones and fine, gold pearl. It had semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation (up to semi-opaque) with a creamy, smooth, and moderately emollient consistency. It applied evenly but had slight color that settled into some of my lip lines, though the glossier finish made that less apparent at a normal viewing distance. The color wore well for three hours and was moisturizing.

The Enriched Lip Luminizer formula is supposed to have “sheer color” with a “soft and silky formula that melts onto lips” that is “long-lasting” and hydrating. It’s a been a long-time favorite for luminous, hydrating, and comfortable lip colors. I feel like they make my lips look pillowy–soft, slightly plumper. The coverage ranges from semi-sheer to semi-opaque, while the texture is very balmy, creamy, and emollient. The wear varies from three to five hours, depending on the intensity of the shade. I find the formula very hydrating while worn but also after the color has worn away.

P.S. — Cle de Peau sells the Enriched Lip Luminizer as a Refill only for $35, and the case retails for $25.

Dusk (238)

Cle de Peau Dusk (238) Enriched Lip Luminizer ($35.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a soft, medium pink with warm undertones and fine, barely-there gold pearl. It had semi-sheer color payoff that was buildable to medium coverage. The consistency was smooth, creamy, and balm-like as it had some substance to it but did not feel heavy. It applied evenly and smoothly across the lips, but there was a bit of color that sunk into my lip lines on my lower lip. This shade wore well for three hours and was incredibly hydrating.

Raspberry Snapple (239)

Cle de Peau Raspberry Snapple (239) Enriched Lip Luminizer ($35.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a soft, medium-dark coral-red with warmer undertones and a smattering of gold pearl. It had sheer to semi-sheer pigmentation that applied smoothly across the lips. The lipstick was creamy without being too thick or too thin, and it glided across the lips and yielded even coverage. There was very slight color that pulled into my deeper lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance due to the shine. I also felt like after a half hour or so, my lip lines weren’t quite as noticeable for the next two hours. This shade wore well for three and a half hours and was moisturizing.

Cranberry

Cle de Peau Cranberry Cream Blush ($60.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a medium-dark, rosy plum with warm undertones and a satin finish. The more blended out the color, the less shimmery it appeared on the skin–more like a natural sheen than overtly shimmery. The consistency was thin with enough slip to blend easily but it dried down quickly and set in place for a solid eight hours on me. It had semi-sheer coverage that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage.

Pale Fig

Cle de Peau Pale Fig Cream Blush ($60.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with warmer undertones and a satin finish. It had sheer coverage that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage, if desired. The consistency felt smooth, blendable, and thinner with just enough slip that it still felt like a cream product, but it was never greasy, slick, or wet on the skin–it immediately started to look and feel like a powder blush upon contact with my skin. The color wore well for almost nine hours on me before fading.

Perfect Peach

Cle de Peau Perfect Peach Cream Blush ($60.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a muted, medium rosy brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had sheer pigmentation that was buildable to medium coverage with two to three layers. The blush felt creamy in the pot, but it immediately turned into more of a powder-like product on the skin. It was easy to blend out along the edges, and it wore nicely for seven hours on me.

Red Carpet

Cle de Peau Red Carpet Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a vibrant, medium-dark pinky red with cool, blue undertones and a soft shine. It had good pigmentation, though it did not have full coverage and was not buildable to full coverage. The consistency was incredibly smooth, silky, and creamy without being heavy or thick–it looked almost like a gloss with just how smooth it made my lips appear. You can noticeably see the difference between the texture of my lips with this shade on and Water Lily (below), which goes to show just how effective the formula can be. It wore well for five and a half hours,, left a slight stain behind, and was moisturizing.

The formula is supposed to have “ultra-vibrant, luminous HD color and rich lasting moisturie” that has a “silk, semi-matte finish lasting for 8 hours.” Under “Key Benefits,” they repeat that it has a “long-lasting finish for up to 8 hours” and “delivers lasting moisture for up to 4 hours” (I swear, that seems like it’s switched–it would really make more sense for it to last for four hours but keep lips hydrated for longer than the color itself lasted). The consistency was lightweight, creamy with a more emollient feel as it applied that had a lightly tacky feel afterward. Color coverage varied from medium and buildable to mostly opaque with light to moderate shine. Some shades applied more smoothly across the lips and made my lips appear smoother and plumper but not all shades did so. The wear was four to six ours with some of the deeper, richer shades (like reds) wearing longer. I found the formula very hydrating and comfortable to wear. I did not notice any taste but they had a subtle, rosy scent.

Water Lily

Cle de Peau Water Lily Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a luminous finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a soft, creamy consistency that was lightweight and comfortable to apply and to wear. The color applied evenly, but I noticed some of it gathered in my deeper lip lines, though it did not worsen as I wore the lipstick. On me, it stayed on well for four and a half hours and was very moisturizing.

Chinoiserie

Cle de Peau Chinoiserie Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a natural sheen. It had good color payoff in a single layer, but it was not completely opaque on the lips. The lipstick had a smooth, creamyt exture that was lightweight with some slip, but it did not slide around as much on the lips as I thought it would, possibly as it had a bit of tackiness to it. The color went on very evenly across the lips and there was a touch of color in my deeper lip lines but all my lip lines still were softer and smoother. This shade lasted for four hours and was moisturizing over time.

The formula is supposed to have “ultra-vibrant, luminous HD color and rich lasting moisture” that has a “silk, semi-matte finish lasting for 8 hours.” Under “Key Benefits,” they repeat that it has a “long-lasting finish for up to 8 hours” and “delivers lasting moisture for up to 4 hours” (I swear, that seems like it’s switched–it would really make more sense for it to last for four hours but keep lips hydrated for longer than the color itself lasted). China Doll

Cle de Peau China Doll Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a soft, medium plum with subtle, warm undertones and a creamy finish with a light sheen. The consistency was lightweight, smooth, creamy but had a light tackiness to it after a few seconds that helped it adhere better than I expected it would (by just how creamy it felt going on). It had nearly opaque pigmentation that covered the lips with even coverage and the texture of the lipstick camouflaged a lot of the texture of my lips but not all. It wore well for four and a half hours and was very hydrating.

Pillow Book

Cle de Peau Pillow Book Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep, reddened berry with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that went on fairly evenly, but there was color that pulled into my lip lines and made them appear darker. I also felt like the pigment did not seem as well-mixed as other shades as there flecks of product that were darker on my lips (more noticeable to the eye in the swatch). The texture was moderately emollient but did not feather on me when I tested it. The lipstick wore well five hours and was nicely hydrating.
